What could we do differently to creatively meet needs typically addressed by family physicians/nurse practitioners?
No matter who we spoke with throughout our consultation, we heard about the need for more doctors or nurse practitioners in our community to meet the basic primary health needs of our population. Today, many of the people who live in Northumberland do not have a local family doctor. Many keep their doctor from other parts of the province for fear of losing care, while others use the Emergency Departments at Northumberland Hills Hospital (NHH) or Campbellford Memorial Hospital (CMH) to get basic, non-emergent needs met. As more doctors and nurse practitioners retire, we need to find other ways to meet the basic health needs of our community in a timely fashion.
Join us for this Strategy Hive where we will think creatively about how we can use the resources we have to better meet the primary health needs of our community. We will also explore how we can make Northumberland an even more attractive place for doctors, nurses and other health professionals to live and practice.
